Washington Closure Hanford manages the $2.3 billion River Corridor Closure Project for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Richland Operations Office. WRPS is eliminating the environmental risk posed by the 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks near the center of the 586 square-mile Hanford Site. We are safely removing waste from the aging single-shell tanks and the safe management of waste stored in the newer double-shell tanks until the waste can be prepared for disposal.
